Mental health and well being
In our school, we understand that children learn best when they are mentally and physically healthy. At The Downs CEP School, we have an amazing pastoral team that support the emotional well being of all members of our school community.
All staff at our school are responsible for ensuring the well being of all children and monitor children's emotional wellbeing regularly, conversations with members of the Senior Leadership Team ensure that all children are supported where they need it.
Mrs Tysoe, our pastoral lead, supports children's attendance and behaviours for learning whilst Miss Morris, our Pastoral Support Assistant supports children's social, emotional and mental health in school. We host a variety of extra curricular activities to allow children time to discuss their thoughts and feelings whilst engaging in fun activities.
We have been recognised by Kent County Council for the support that we provide children by being awarded the Resilience and Emotional Wellbeing award.
The Downs CEP School is recognised for its commitment to mental health and wellbeing in school.

Young Carers
Our Young Carers are supported by Miss Morris and Mrs Newton. Our aim is to provide children, identified as Young Carers, with practical skills that will aid them in their daily life and experiences that allow opportunities to share with others.

Emotional Wellbeing Team
As a school, we are extremely fortunate to work with NHS NELFT and the Emotional Wellbeing Team. The team supports children and parents within school, delivers workshops and signposts families to support if needed.
Our pastoral lead, Mrs Tysoe, works closely with the team to identify children and families that would benefit from this amazing scheme.
