Our School Forum

School ForumThe purpose of the school forum is to enable children to participate in the decision making process of the school and gain first hand experience of the workings of a democratic organisation.

Every September new forum representatives are elected by their classmates. In KS1 there are two representatives from each of the Year 1 and Year 2 classes, totalling 8 in all. For the KS2 forum there are two representatives from each of the Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 class, totalling 16 in all.

The school forums meet once a month with the deputy head or another member of the senior management team to discuss issues that have been raised in school that affect the children or the wider community. Sometimes the two forums meet together.

The school forum has previously been involved in changing the dinner arrangements; providing benches for the playgrounds; choosing playtime equipment and provided ideas for improvements at Markwood Park.

So far the forum has been involved in the following:

  • The DownsSuggestions for new playground equipment
  • Visited other schools to look at lunchtime arrangements
  • Ordered new tables for the hall as a result of the visits
  • Agreed to raise money for Water Aid, MacMillan Cancer Research, Headway.
